Pungwe Sessions Vol. II’s First single Recruits An All-Star Cast For The Dancehall Anthem “Problem”

Song Details

Problem

  • Artists: Rymez, Simba Tagz, Nutty O & Boss Pumacol

  • Producer: Rymez

The first single off the anticipated Pungwe Sessions Vol. II project is the Dancehall party starter Problem that features Simba Tagz, Nutty O and Boss Pumacol.

The Rymez produced song kicks off with a hypnotic horn sample underpinned by kicks and drums that pull you in and onto the dancefloor. Problem’s hook is provided by Zimbabwean music impresario Simba Tagz who uses his gravelly voice to set the tone for the up-tempo offering. Zim Dancehall’s rising stars Nutty O and Boss Pumacol trade bars as they invite women to the Dancefloor using increasingly witty wordplay and banter.

“Me working with Rymez and the other artists was magical. Some part of me is fulfilled musically. I do not know how to express it fully. But this has been one of the greatest musical meetings that has ever happened for Africa and the world. “ - Nutty O

Problem also displays Rymez talent and versatility as a producer as the beat was made in the studio specifically for the Dancehall acts during a recording session for the Pungwe Sessions.

Problem was written and recorded during the weeklong Pungwe Sessions organised by Point Black and supported by Goethe-Zentrum Harare/ Zimbabwe German Society.

Much like the rest of the album, the goal with this song was to encourage collaboration amongst Zimbabwean creatives and expose them to new sounds and audiences.

“This is probably my favourite song off the album. Boss Pumacol came into the studio and I could tell he was nervous and the beats I was playing were not really connecting with him. So, I whipped this up and he immediately started writing the verse. Tagz heard the beat and started mumbling ‘Problem, problem I’m about to have me a problem’ to himself. Soon we had the verse and chorus and then Nutty O came in and immediately started writing his verse. This song just has the energy that reflects what it was like making it.” - Rymez

Upon release, Problem was immediately added to the following official Apple Music Playlists

  1. Future Hits

  2. Hot Tracks
